Poinsettia Osettia

Better late than never i say!!! I've been thinking about making these headbands for a while....and i finally got around to making them!!! I wanted a lil frou frou for the winter, and what better way to do it than wearing a Poinsettia (the plant that seems to adorn most living rooms in the winter/festive months) in your do.

These delectable eco - accessories are made from either purity white, rockin'ruby or vivacious red::: recycled pop bottle felt and each one has a different vintage button - thus.....making them totally OOAK(One Of A Kind)!!! And the comfortable elastic band fits 99% of heads!!!

where's da brakes!!!

A few weeks ago when i picked up my Mama, something went a bit awry with the brakes in my car. I said " Don't worry Mama we just have to drive 5 hours through the mountain passes to get home - we'll be fine!!!' . We both nervously giggled and then there was silence........but as we made it home, got busy and funds were limited - i decided to ignore the fact that i had no brakes....i would just use my gears!!!
So i'm driving along the other day and there was a line up of cars in front of me, so i start gearing down 50m's ahead of my target stop, and as i neared the bumper in front of me, applied my brakes - there was nothing, the car kept going even tho my foot was thru the floor - SHIZA!!!! All of a sudden my Ebrake light came on and my trusty stead had applied its back up brakes (i think, well i don't really care where the brakes came from....the point is...i stopped just in time!!). So i thought well that was a close call.....its probably about time i had my brakes checked.
I hate dropping my car off, its like going to the dentist - you know they are going to find something and it sure is going to cost ya !
Apparently - they said ....You are totally missing one back brake althogether...like it had fallen off somewheres, and he gave me a lecture of keeping things in order on my car, so that i wouldn't have a near death experience again. I felt like saying...."yeah for sure - i'm going to floss everyday until my next visit!!!"...you have all intentions to, but you know you won't!!!

And let me tells ya, Sparky is getting busy.....somedays i'm like - 'where's da brakes'......Everyone is doing their last minute, freaking out christmas buying, so i've been sewing like a maniac, packaging, and running to the post office (i've finally learned how to use online shipping tools - so much easier and faster!!)
And just managed to finish up these ' Citrus n' Plum 'Waste Wonderful wristlets......totally love em, coz i needed a little brightness and warmth in my days

Description: morsels of oranges, corals and florals make up this cheerful Waste Wonderful!!!(just what we need for the gloomy winter)The back side is made from a beautiful thick upcycled denim!! Whilst the lining is a kitschy upcycled orange n' white gingham cotton with a deep plum zip to oddly match. She is finished off with an orange strap and organic cotton labels. Some interfacing and padding is used.

And i'm going to be adding a NEW NEW NEW product to my etsy shop today.......they are cute lil headband for the winter called 'Osettia Jones'

Sometimes you gots to lose a little

Well last week not only did i lose my Mama (she went back to australia after being here for the coldest 3 weeks in BC ever!!) but i lost about 100 pounds!! The day before she left, i woke up ready to start my day and things started to turn.... and mainly in my tummy. So off to the washroom i ran....and managed to squeak out "Mama get me the bucket!!!" And the games began!!! I spent the day either in the washroom or passed out in my bed exhausted from my experiences - but thanks goodness my Mama was there to make me cups of tea and change the channel for me(Those things can be slightly irrating with all the chat but can come in handy in these circumstances...giggle)
I managed to pull myself together the next day, as Mama, my beau and I were off to Vancouver, for quick trip to visit family, see the international departure terminal and staying in a fancy hotel in the city. All went well, minus one hiccup in the morning and Mamas flight being delayed until 1 am - the hotel was a little bit of a dissapointment too......it was a bit of a shoe box that was painted green!!! BUT
there was a free breakfast......and even tho i paid for it in the hotel room rate.....it said 'complimentary', so i signed up naturally!!!
As i perused the buffet...my lil tummy started to turned...and i went for the fruit platter - the bacon, eggs and greasy sausage for some strange reason was definitely not appealing to me.....So basically I paid $100 to eat bloody fruit!!!! what a let down.
So my beau and i decided to cruise over to Deep Cove and get a coffee before we left the city. Oh man was it ever beautiful over there - i think its was i always imagined Canada to look like. So we gots a coffee and a huge donut from a cutesy lil coffee shop(i didn't eat the donut but i had to try it.....it weighed probaby 1 kg!) and there was a cool boutique nextdoor which i totally fell in love with - i think i can see a lil Sparky in there one day!
So it was there and then i decided to start saving some cash, so i can have a weekend in Vancouver, visiting coffee shops and boutiques and actually EATING....

and speaking of budgets...i just finished up these 2 Bujetta Jones ::: 'Tealy Greens' (which come to think of it...was probably the colour of my face that day, giggle)

Heres a lil description of them:

Tealy Greens is just so fresh n delicious, with her front flap that is made from Hetty's old dress - a minty number with kitschy koo drawn flowers! Handmade apple green bias binding that encases the tealy canvasy wallet body. The backside has 2 olive and 1 aqua coloured zips - ....which makes the most perfectly odd combination!!! The Sparky Jones labels.......organic cotton of course!!!

Oh Canada!!

Well i think the fact that my Mama has been here for the last 2 weeks and has learned the whole Canadian anthem (yes its hockey season again - thus meaning the anthem is played on the radio/tv over and over and over again) and sings/whistles it constantly - was what inspired me to make this bag !!

Day of Rest ???

Sunday is my day of rest apparently....but since it seems to be my only day off in the week....i have to get a lot done.......so its not really.....a day of rest, more just a day off Sparky to get all other aspect in life in order!!


Anyways for a special treat, my beau and I decided to get outta town, we went to Local in Summerland for breakfast, and i seriously thought i'd died and gone to heaven afterwards. My breakfast was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo delicious, i can't even explain the flavour overload - i had the root hash, chorizo saugage, poached eggs which was topped off with a spicy cornbread. I think this is definitely going to be my new brekkie hangout - just going to need to amp up the exercise regime to justify it all.

After that - we went to Kelowna for my first Costco experience. Now for those who don't know, Costco is a MASSIVE foodstore for those who like to buy in bulk, i've always heard about the deals you can get, so i was pretty into the idea...until.............i felt like i was in a documentary about 'consumerism'. Everyone was lining up to get thru the front doors -w e were like cattle with carts, there was Mooing of excitment, hooves were stomping- and you could feel the breathing and snorting on the back of your neck..... we were all just anxiously waiting to make the break -just like in a rodeo, it was all about the buck!! . All we had to do was make it past the security check and the gate would open......we'd be free - to the greener pastures!!! .....I hopped on the front of the cart and held on tight, K was driving the beast, so he showed his new membership card with pride..... yelled to hold on -pushed with all his might and we were in.....in this greener pasture of bright lights, biggest isles i've ever seen and tripley plastic wrapped products. I felt like my world went silent and i was skating/dancing around on this cart in slow motion- there were carts, people with the widest eyes and bulk items flying everywhere -all i could do was stare in amazement at what strange creatures our kind has become.......like did that petit woman really need 20 kgs of cheddar?? Did that old man of 90 really need 20 cans of tomato paste??
But as i was dancing around on my cart, there was something that really caught my attention.......the FREE samples of food they were giving away at the end of every isle!!! So as we neared these tables....i motioned to my driver K to slow down...i jumped off, grabbed what i could and got straight back on my cart and told him to step on it (you had to keep up with traffic!). I had bananas dipped in chocolate, dried mangoes, berrylicious yoghurt, fruit spritzers,granola bars........ and by the end of it i was so digustingly full and my belly.... well it was dancing around as much as my cart. So we got outta there $200 bucks poorer and followed all the other cows out to the other pasture called the parking lot - but the coolest thing happened....as we were loading our plasticy bundles into the truck....this person drove by....."Hey that girl was wearing a Sparky Jones red n beige Kepp Jones hat' I told K...so we packed like the wind and ran like spies to follow this truck, darting all the other cows and trucks to try and get a glimpse, we got seperated in the hunt..but i could hear him i knew he was safe...we both got close.... so we had to play it cool, be like adults.............but ................she had taken it off!!!

I'm on my way....i told my beau, that i could be rich and famous by next week and that he might want to hang onto me.... actually it kinda looked like this Kepp Jones

But completely different colours....just a cheeky way of getting you to look at my etsy store!!!

D-A-I-S-Y

So lately i've been thinking of different ways to take my photos so that :::

a) they all kinda look the same (lighting is really really hard to get right everytime)
b) so i don' t have to freeze my whatsies off standing there in my frou frou dress in the middle of winter (its already gettin chilly around these parts and i find it hard to cover up goosebumps in photos)
and mainly because of......
c) Every single bloody time i go outside into the back alley to do my photo shoots...i'm usually strapped for time and sunlight and there he is.....2 seconds later!!! The middle aged guy, with a grey elvis do, that lives behind me - comes out for a smoke. Now i don't think he is altogether there, so the first 100 times i let things slide.....but now...well my teeth clench, the adrenlin starts to pump and i do anything i can to stop the screaming obscenities that are coming up from deep in my belly!!!
So this is how the conversation goes::
'oh what a lovely dog, what is HIS name?'
'Daisy ' i say calmly
'Nixon' he says
'Daisy' i say
'Biscuit'
'Daisy'
'Wanda'
'Daisy'
This continues on for probably 10 other names, so i won't bore you with those!
'Can you spell that for me'

'oh Shadow...is that it - gosh he really is a placid dog isn't he...'

Meanwhile i'm trying to look somewhat decent/pleasant/happy for the head shots of a Kinn Jones hat or Milly Jones headband!!
So lets just say this photo shoot went relaxingly well, DAISY was sleeping on her bed and i was warm and the sunlight was just right.

This one is a little different that the other Busys i've made - i used piping instead of bias binding...just to try something a lil different! You can find more photos here.

And i'll be adding another one to the shop tomorrow, along with some hats....Yippy some more hats!

Its all about the time

Okay so we just had to put back our clocks an hour - and i have to say "I am Lovin' it!!!" Infact i haven't even changed my clocks in my house coz i'm loving it so much(i think its called task cheating)......its light in the morning, i feel like i have one extra hour in my day to get things done and its getting cold...so i don't feel guilty about staying inside. So this new change has brought on a change i think.....i feel like i'm finally getting on top of things and getting some order(Being away for so long really messed me up for a bit mentally, motivationally and financially!)
And the other thing is.....i have to get really on top of things coz my Mama is coming over for 3 weeks, i have my 'Sparky Jones Fabulous First Christmas Showing' to prepare for....and i've signed up to do a craft fair in early December.
So when you need to get going, first things first......tidy or procrastinate!!! I just gave my studio a HUGE cleanout and it looks awesome and i love going to work. My mind is clear and focused, and i found all this funk-i-ma-fied fabric that had been hiding for the last year or so.

And i think it took me about 3 hours to go thru my fabrics and fold em all - My shelves haven't looked like that for a very long time!!!

And the latest...there are 2 Busy Jones bags called 'WinterBerry'. I bought a skirt ages ago in a thrift shop in Perth Australia...and it never did fit right i think i just loved the cranberry colour and the Japanesey feel. I just have to do i couple of lil finishing touches and then i'll be able to post them.

And lastly....i feel like there is always lots of really cool things happening, but i never have my camera and i always think that i write about it 'the next day 'and never do.....So i vow to write once a day about something cool or at least funny......and maybe just maybe some new Sparky Jones goodies !!
