last little packages

Just packaged up some gorgeous lil Sparky Jones Accessories for a very supa dupa special order ~ oh la la how absolutely exciting! And since my table is full of wrapping papers, ribbons + frou frou tissue, i thought i'd pretty them up, so they looked extra cute under the Christmas tree! Note the retro sewing pattern for tissue..wink. 

Anyways the other reason for showing this lil Sparky life tidbit, is i've found another setting on my camera that i'm really crushing on right now. I changed a dial here, tweaked a # there, up'd the ISO…and voila, a whole new world opened up. I was getting really frustrated + stumped on the photo's i was taking, i felt like i wasn't really learning or getting better….so what better time than Christmas to play with your  old/new toy!

Well things are starting to wind down here for 2013. I wrapped up my last couple of orders that are heading for their exciting new homes.
I brought out a new lil wallet called 'Hello'….they just make me giggle, i wanted to make an accessory to go with a Sparky carrier or just to be held alone for those quick trips to the shops ~ yep a bit late for the Christmas shoppers, but i just couldn't wait until the new year!
Its started to get very wintery around these parts…so leggings, denim dresses + nooks booties are high on the agenda for lil Miss Bea.
Today it snowed like crazy, right when we were going to look at house #241(i feel like thats how many houses we have looked at to date!), however i did manage to stop along the way to take this quick snapshot. I'm not that fond of the snow…but there is a beauty in its serenity for sure!  And its always nice to have a white christmas, just like in the movies :: giggle.

Bo.ttega Weekend

Well i'm pretty sure i could have sold my outfit 100 times over at the Bo.ttega Christmas Market extravaganza this weekend!!! and everyone love love loved the shoes!
Honestly…it was probably the best market i've done yet, the atmosphere was so fantabulously fun, everyone was happy yet relaxed….and so so so funny. Boy did i ever meet some characters (that's my favourite thing about doing markets, is you get to meet such interesting peeps!) I met fabric addicts, red shoe lovers, Australians, cricket loving English folk with the last name Jones, old people, young people, made some new friends + ran into some familiar faces, and the list could keep going! But i'm sure you get the idea!!

Ahhhhhh, anyways luckily i had a few hats on hand, a couple of Humphreds found a new home and i had made a few lil 'hello' purses (i'll be showing you in the next couple of days) which seemed to put a smile of peoples faces :: they really are quite cute if i do say so myself.

And the outfits, my sunday dress(shown above) was quite the hit, i think about 3 different people asked if they could take a photo…i just had to giggle + say 'well, sure why not!' I had actually made a few O.B Jones belts right before i had shut down over a year ago, and thought well hells its Christmas, they're cute + fun and look festively gorgeous, so i may aswell wear one! Its such a fancy lil obi belt too, it has a bit of a red n' green shimmer on the one side + a playful red gingham on the other…all you have to do is wrap yourself up with a deliciously thick red satin ribbon with a big bow + maybe some red shoes and your done!! (oh i do have 2 left if anyone is interested,..perhaps just send moi an email over at jemima@sparkyjones.ca)
And the best part of being at such a splendiferous event..is being around crafty folk. Its kinda nice to be able to talk about indiepreneur life, learn some new tips or get advice and just to be immersed in a culture that understands…well you! I'm feeling totally re-energized, move over Christmas I'm ready for exciting adventure in the new year!

I finally dug out the winter box!
When i was doing my wardrobe cleanse, i decided that to feel more 'de-cluttered', that i would have a winter + summer box of clothing….and what a fantabulous idea ~ i just opened up my winter box + it was like free shopping with all these clothes that i love, love love + haven't seen for a while! Some of them i was definitely keeping as i had a feeling my waistline would have to return someday..and boy i'm a glad i could squeeze into this lil number.
A preloved item in a maroony tweed. I would have taken a photo wearing it, but am finding the self-portrait a hard one to accomplish with a DSLR camera (any tips would be appreciated!)

Anyways, so as i was deciding what to wear with my new old tweedy goodness….n' Delia Jones in Woolly Plum was almost jumping out of her box (i found the perfect vintage tin to keep all my Delia Jones in, i'll have to show you asap!) at me.  How excited was I….excited, ecstatic, over the moon, in love, Woolly Plum was the perfect accessory to adorn my pretty lil waistcoat.  I'd tried out a couple o different arrangements, but this one was by far my favourite! So what do you think??

This Weekending.

Well this weekending, was kinda eventful in a non eventful way.  We really seemed to have a lot on the go, but every time we needed to go out…Baby Bea decided that she desperately needed a nap!  She was a complete Sleeping Beauty! Sweet but very inconvenient ::giggle!.

First up… we were house hunting!….which used to be fun…. but has now turned into a never ending task.  We're not too picky, but finding an appropriate sized house with all the bedrooms somewhat near each other seems to be non- existent around these parts.  We seem to be needing a touch more space, as our little family, sewing areas, doggies and guests from afar, seem to be a bit much for these tiny walls we call our home. 

And it just so happened we had some travelling peeps from Australia coming our way on saturday!

 Yes'm, in this tiny world we live in, my sista's friends from Perth, Australia had some work for a few weeks, in the next town away, so naturally... not really knowing them, but having some long lost connection, we thought ' hey let's catch up!!'  It was a complete vacationy treat for all of us i think, we wined + dined at the Poplar Grove Winery restaurant 'The Vanilla Pod'.   Delicious eats + great chats in Australian accents…loved every minute! 

Sunday brought us a visit with Santa!  It was our first real outting to a complete nutso kiddyfest event…there was  blow up thingys, plastic toys on mass, eats, a Santa + pressies.  Bea was loving it, but as predicted…there were tears on Santa's lap!

So in between the housing, scrumptious food + the santa gymboree,  i managed to do a bit of sewing!  Sparky Jones is going to be at Christmas show  at Bottega farm inn + Studio this weekend coming…so i have a bit of fine tuning to do before then...

Honey Box Blue

Throughout the summer i would often take a drive along a road that was spotted with wineries, orchards +…. honey boxes.  And being the usual way of things…i never seemed to have my camera on me at the right time ~ grrrrr.  Here were these rustic lil busy bee honey making havens in all odd colours like chartreuse, blues + aquas…in between picturesque fruiting trees…would have made the bestest award winning snapshot!

So inspired by these gorgeous honey boxes, i created a Humphred in the same colour scheme!  All i needed was some fabulous woolly goodness....

Chartreuse tweed was always Byrce's favourite.  He had great plans to recover all the sofa seats in his 1960 Airstream trailer, only he had way to much of the stuff!  Lucky for us…there was enough to make a few Humphreds + a couple lil things! Thanks Bryce for over calculating!!

Honey chartreuse on the front, and a bubbly heavier chartreuse tweed on the back, makes for one smart handsome Mr!

All trimmings + handmade bias binding were handcrafted from a most dapper preloved Navy blue home linens

And those buttons….found them at  'Button Crazy'…a business that is totally dedicated to vintage buttons, run by Miss Darlene (you might remember i visited her a lil while back)

Meet Myrtle Jones....a pillow cover designed to be abundantly gorgeous in character!

 

So why pillow covers?

 

Well over this past year, i happened to spend a lot of time on the sofa, my lil babe was a bit of a comfort feeder..... which means i would spend a full hour just sitting, waiting, daydreaming...at least 4 times a day.  So in this time i planned how my whole dream living room would look.  White, a lot of white ~ white flooring, white walls, alotta sunshine, a brightly coloured danish design sofa/couch...and vibrantly coloured accessories!  (Miss Holly Becker over at Decor8 blog seems to be able to capture everything i love in housey interiors).  I also got to thinking how you can really change the essence of  a room, by just changing a few small details, pillows being one of them.  And the double sided Sparky pillow cover came to fruition!  Luckily for moi + you, i have a beautiful range of vintage fabrics just perfect for the job,

Weekending.

Hope everyone had a happy weekending!

The Mr is away at the moment, so Bea + i try our hardest to have a lil fun in between all that responsible boring stuff that has to get done. On saturday we headed out to Summerland to the Jingle + Mingle market, the cute lil I.O.O.F hall on Main St, was filled with inspiring Momma's in business, so there was quite the hustle + bustle  going on amongst the local banter + homemade chilli.
Around the corner is the very special Summerland thrift shop ~ it opens from 1 - 4pm and there is always a line of folks waiting for the 'open' sign to be flipped, so in we piled at 1:01...and i scored this sweet peachy japanesey fabric - not sure what its destined for yet, but it was too kitschy to pass up!

Sunday...well it was a balmy 0'c, but beautifully sunny (its been doomy, gloomy + in those awful minus digits), so out came the garden rake.....and i finally got to that Fall clean up, now that its November!  Was kinda of nice to be away from the computer + in the fresh air, especially as these sunny days won't be around for much longer.  I'm trying to work on my fa-doob-ba-dahs too (that flappy bit of old lady skin that now hangs from my upper arm..where muscle once lived!) and raking + sweeping are the best + cheapest workout for that lil dilema.

On the last happy note...my lil babe was lying in her crib, looked up at me + said 'Mum'...she has been saying her form of the word for a while now, but this was the real deal...and yep it was in Australian!  Those little creatures sure can melt you in a flash + its only the beginning!  Since then she has said a different word everyday....makes one realize what words you use often! 'Whoa' was next in line :: giggle!

Meet Delia Jones.

Another of the new characters i have been working on!!

So i'd like you to meet miss Delia Jones! She is a set of 3 delicious button brooches that have been individually hand covered in the finest of fine vintage fabrics. This season of Delia - i have to say is exquisitely fantabulous :: from buoyant to classy, ol faithful to festive... she really is the perfect lil way to spruce up for any occasion or outfit!

 

She has antique brass brooch backs, + can be pinned into many different arrangements, depending on your attire + your mood - vertical, horizontal, cluster...oh lala the possibilities are endless! (But we'll get into that another day!)

 

For today, i wanted to share a closer look at 'Polka Dottie' She is deep luscious red (my fav colour - wink) with these amazing tiny white bobbly polkadots. I have an absolute thing for polkadots + just as well, they never seem to go out of fashion.... timeless beauty some/i would say.

I truely believe that all things created (even us strange creatures) should be as wonderful on the inside as the outside!!

 

So using my trusty 'daydreaming of many pocket' ways, my sketchbook + my ever so loved brown Sakura pen.....i really put my mind to creating the ever so important interior!. Inspired heavily by concepts of Scandinavian design, much care and attention was paid to his utilitarian beauty - and by using something so pure + bright, brings out all that vivid vintage goodness...thus making me completely giddy! Mission accomplished!

 

Humphred's vitals::

One large magazine pocket, a smaller pocket for notebooks, a slender pocket for pens n' pencils + lastly...a nifty zippered pocket to secure any of your safe keepings. All made from a delicious thick natural cotton canvas.

 

By the way all trimmings + handmade bias binding... were handcrafted from a luscious red vintage tablecloth - oh lala.

 

NB:: it has recently come to my attention how many people have a love/obsession for a good quality brown pen! Like, i'm the kind of person that always has a few in stock, just incase of a crisis!

I came across the dreamy blog little brown pen a while back too (its changed names now...but tis still dreamy!)

Hello hello...yes i'm still here!

So so very much has been going on, our tiny house has been oldly chaotic with sickness, lil people busy-ness + a whole handful of other things thrown in, and it has been a touch stressful to say the least.  However, in the businessing world, i have managed to show at a  couple of Christmas market fairs + have 1 or 2 more coming up.... and also squeezed in a really fun photoshoot under freezing conditions!(with 2 amazingly talented peeps + some good hair!)  and finally, yes finally.... i am  tackling..... opening the SJA Etsy shoppe! HooooRay!! Quite a bit has changed since i was there last, so its taking a lil longer than expected!! (bare with me folks!)

Anyways... i'm utterly excited as today ::  i'm introducing a brand spanking new SJA character to the to our accessory range!!  He has been playing on my mind for a long time now, and after making several prototypes i'm happy + ready to show him to the world!!

It got worse!!

Yep it got worse!! A couple o days before the Fabulous Finds show, i got hit with a tummy bug from another planet! Now that its over, i'm a touch thankful as my clothes are fitting a wee bit better...but at the time :: well, i was sure that the rest of my life was going to be spent at the toilet bowl!!
 And of course, these things always happen when the Mr is away ~ thankfully i have the bestest neighbours + besties that came to the rescue..they took care of my babe,fuzzy friends + made sure i had some food in my tummy.

Anyways all i'd love to do is sit down and read my new magazine + make some new goodies out of these scrumptious new finds...but alas this week is awfully busy :: photoshoots, etsy shop opening, + perhaps a local show on the weekend - it really is all happening, so it might understandably be a lil quieter around these parts in the next lil while.  I'll try and keep you posted with the bestest part of the adventures of course!

Curve Ball.

Yikes, getting sick was not in my impeccable Businessing Plan!! Sorry folks!!

We've had a pretty busy couple of months ~ family coming + going, 3 new little cousins have been born, the 1st birthday of our lil one, all whilst gearing up for the Businessing comeback + a couple of Christmas craft shows. And thats when it happened...some crazy kinda cooties took over my head!!!

 

 Yes'm i thought it was just a flu that would pass but ended up having to have a root canal on an ol root canal + am on some crazy anti-biotics to try + get rid of whatever is living in my noggin! Now the thing i've learned is.....you can really still function if you have a sore body part, but when its your head....well you really do need your brain:: giggle!!

Anyways this month has been a bit of a sha-mozzle, so i'm thinking perhaps i need another October!  At the moment i'm busy sewing up everything i need for the Fabulous Finds show i'm doing this weekend, so i'm hoping life will return a lil back to normal next week + we can get back on track....~ but then we have the Sparky Jones Granding Opening next week!! YiPpy + is it that time already!!!

Beatrix Betsy ~ 1 year old!!

 

Well i apologize for being somewhat MIA, but well...our lil Beanut just had her first Birthday week!!!(yikes shades of moi already!) I also realized that i have a new appreciation for all those full time bloggers out there...i'm pretty sure they are some kind of super humans, that eat superfoods + function on no sleep????

Anyways one year ago our baby girl entered our life, but it really did seemed like yesterday. Life has definitely taken some twists + turns, some parts have become harder, some parts i don't seem to care about anymore, some parts i care more about than i thought i would...but most of it, really is ~ a whole lotta fun! I don't think i've ever laughed so hard or felt so proud ~ acted like such a fool or wanted to squish(cuddle) something so much.   

 

So we ended up spending her real birthday up at Davison Orchards in Vernon, with Nanna + Poppi L, which ended up being a relaxing day filled with 'firsts'. First clown, first hotdog, first bday cake, first farm animals...you kinda forget how exciting all the silly little things are!
She really is becoming a little person now..she loves to say 'hi' to every person she sees(and won't stop until they say hi back), blows kisses to complete strangers, and she loves loves loves babies.  She is scarily independant, growls like a dog when she doesn't like something + hates getting dressed/changed...ggrrrrrrr!

Well now that my babe is a year old, i feel like my assignment is done.  I wanted to sort of document her first year in both pictures + what she was up to ~  but i'm sure there will be some posts of cute outfits here + there!

I usually use GreenPrinterOnline, although i was wondering about Jukebox Print, but i have always deep down wanted to try out Moo, so as learning new things is on the list for 2013.... Moo won! Big smile!

Now i received my businessing cards in the mail a week or 2 back, got to say i love with whole experience of printing with Moo. Their website is fun,fun,fun...easy to use and they have way too many inspirational things on there :: as in...i wanted to order 100 different things! Its a great site to look around if you are stuck for ideas + to see what other cool peeps in the design world are up to aswell. Anyhoo i was very impressed as my shipment arrived before the due date, and all packaged up real cute like!

hello branding!

 

Branding your biz, is I have to say....one of the funnest parts of the job! Its like putting all the things that you absolutely love into basket + getting to create something that is truely special and unique (hopefully!) This is where your mood box can come in handy too!!

 

Sparky red, a 'touch of femininity' pink + vintage fashion inspiration, is what I put into my Sparky Jones basket...oh la la!  So so exciting, the only thing is...sometimes its hard to stick with what you have chosen, when there are so many possibilities +  wonderful ideas :: giggle!!

Anyways the key thing is to keep it consistent ~ that way peeps will recognize you from near + far...and hopefully get that comfy feeling....... just like when you see your Muma:: you always know what too expect! ahhhhhhh!.

October Overview

Autumn colours, woolen cardigans + Thanks Giving are all things to look forward to this month!

 

But on the businessing front...well its starting to get a lil crazy over here! YiPpY. I think i must be a big fan of 'crunch time' ~ getting busy, being busy, having less time + doing more.....

So what does October bring...well there is going to be some branding, we are going to get Social, touch on a bit of Photography, get a lil creative with the marketing...the 3rd Indie-preneur interview (and yes, the 2nd is on its way!).  Finishing up with a simple yet effective Project by Papa W(my Papa).
